Master-smiths who claim to know the horn of a magnoceros will tell you that Magnus has the finest one, and that his kin are the only reason he is still alive to use it. For years he gored every hunter who came near the mountain, but when his Matriarch warned that they should flee north, he refused because a magnoceros never changes its mind. Then the mountain erupted, killing half his kin, and he changed his mind quickly enough. The survivors pushed through the snow until a hundred hunters blocked their path. Magnus charged with his fiercest brothers and sisters, and in the chaos the elders and young slipped away. What happened after is debated, but the truth is that Magnus survived, vowing to rejoin his kin only after he has killed those who caused the eruption. He intends to watch them die on his horn, because a magnoceros still does not believe in chance.
