Valve’s latest major Dota 2 gameplay update is now live, with Patch 7.41e introducing another round of hero, item and map-mechanic changes. Released on July 30, the update arrived together with the 2026 Summer Scrub, giving players both a balance patch and a substantial collection of bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements.
The timing makes 7.41e especially important. The International 2026 is already underway in Shanghai, meaning the changes introduced in the patch are directly influencing how professional teams approach drafts, item builds and late-game fights.
Valve has also moved its recent news cycle toward The International. On August 11, the developer released another update covering tournament streams, predictions, Fantasy, supporter bundles and additional rewards. However, 7.41e remains the latest full gameplay balance patch.
Patch 7.41e Changes Items, Heroes and Map Mechanics
One of the most noticeable general changes affects Twin Gates. Channeling a Twin Gate can now be interrupted by root effects, creating additional counterplay when heroes attempt to escape or rotate across the map. Tormentors also received a mechanical adjustment and now disjoint projectiles while moving between chasms.

Several popular items were adjusted as well. Abyssal Blade now grants 30 Strength instead of 26, while Butterfly lost five points of Agility but gained five additional damage. Eye of Skadi received a stronger attack-speed slow, increasing from 20% to 25%, and Hand of Midas now provides 40 attack speed instead of 35. Valve also stopped the spell amplification from multiple Divine Rapiers from stacking.
Some of the biggest changes include:
- Phantom Assassin’s Blur can no longer be dispelled.
- Puck’s Illusory Orb received a longer cooldown at every level.
- Axe lost base Agility and received lower Battle Hunger damage.
- Troll Warlord’s Battle Trance now provides 35% Slow Resistance.
- Zeus received reduced Thundergod’s Wrath damage and lower bonus attack speed from Lightning Hands.
- Ancient Apparition’s Ice Blast received a shorter cooldown at early levels.
These changes do not completely rebuild Dota’s systems, but they touch enough high-impact heroes and items to affect both professional drafts and public matchmaking.
Summer Scrub Targets Bugs and Long-Standing Gameplay Issues
Patch 7.41e arrived alongside Summer Scrub 2026, Valve’s large-scale cleanup effort focused on bugs, inconsistent interactions and quality-of-life problems. Among the fixes are issues involving Smoke of Deceit, Power Treads, teleport scrolls, reflected channeling spells, hero abilities and neutral items. Valve also adjusted several item interactions and corrected cases where abilities behaved differently from their intended descriptions.
The combination of balance changes and technical fixes makes the update more significant than its “e” designation might suggest. Instead of introducing a completely new map or mechanic, Valve has focused on refining the current version of Dota while adjusting several heroes that could become important during high-level competitive play. The most interesting part will be seeing which changes survive beyond the current tournament meta. Buffs to heroes such as Ancient Apparition and Troll Warlord could create new opportunities, while nerfs to Puck, Axe and Zeus may force teams to reconsider previously reliable picks.
For regular players, Patch 7.41e also provides a reason to reassess familiar builds. Changes to Butterfly, Abyssal Blade, Eye of Skadi and Hand of Midas can alter item timings and late-game decisions even when a player’s favorite hero received no direct changes. With The International 2026 in progress and no newer gameplay patch released as of August 17, Patch 7.41e remains the version of Dota 2 that currently defines the competitive meta.
