Lore

Nerif was an Oracle unlike any before him. The Cymurri kings had always imported their Oracles from the Ivory Incubarium, raised by the Pallid Sybils, who let their souls roam the cosmos while their bodies stayed with us. They'd return with prophecies that guided the kings to victory. But Nerif's prophecies didn't just predict the future; they shaped it. He'd croak advice no one asked for, and suddenly Cymurri had new enemies. The Advisors tried to get rid of him, but when he foresaw the Incubarium's destruction, and it happened, they got scared. The Graven King, though, saw Nerif as a weapon. He made Nerif utter his desired outcomes as prophecy, and at first it worked. But on the eve of invading the Unsated Satrap, the King demanded a prediction of certain victory. Nerif only muttered, 'It could go either way.' The King, confident in his army, took that as a good sign. He was wrong. During the battle, reality split at each pivotal moment. Soldiers were both dead and alive, victorious and defeated, simultaneously. The universe became a shattered mirror. Both armies went insane. The King's mind dispersed, and the Satrap fared no better. The Advisors, fearing more, bound Nerif and launched him into another universe. But it was too late. The damage was done.
