Krobelus used to read fortunes for the rich, peering past the veil for coin. But after years of serving others, she got curious about her own fate. Death wouldn't give up its secrets, so she tried to buy them with her life. That price wasn't enough. Death spat her back out repeatedly, keeping its mysteries close. She grew jealous of everyone else who could die for good. Why couldn't she stay dead? Why was she the only one thrown back onto the shores of life? She didn't give up, though. Every time she clawed her way back from the grave, she brought a piece of death with her. Wraiths trailed after her like bits of her shattered soul, her blood turned thin and ghostly, and the twilight feeders started treating her like one of their own. She paid a little more of her life with each death, and it seemed like her end might finally be near. With her devotion to death stronger than ever, and no clients left but herself, she dove deeper into the abyss, chasing the one prophecy she never could fulfill: that one day, the Death Prophet would finally stop coming back.
