Team Spirit win a five-game TI final and lift a third Aegis

Team Spirit defeated Team Vision 3-2 in The International 2026 Grand Final in Shanghai. The deciding fifth game lasted more than an hour before Spirit completed its lower-bracket run and lifted the Aegis.

Team Vision forced the final into a fifth game

Spirit controlled the opening game, but Team Vision recovered in game two and levelled the series. Spirit moved ahead again in game three. Vision answered with a composed win in game four, leaving the title to one final map. The fifth game remained close deep into the late stage. Both teams protected buybacks and avoided a rushed high-ground attack. Spirit finally converted a late team fight into enough map control to finish the game. Valve described the decider as an hour-long contest that remained open until the closing moments.

Vision’s two earlier victories gave the final a clear tactical context. Spirit had already seen how the opponent opened lanes and protected its preferred areas of the map. The rematch therefore tested whether Spirit could change its decisions under elimination pressure. The final score shows that neither side found a permanent answer. Every lead in the series was followed by another adjustment. Team Vision’s run remains part of the result. The team reached the last series through the upper bracket and twice defeated the eventual champion before the final. It then won two games in the title match and forced an hour-long decider. Spirit’s record third trophy was earned against the opponent that had caused its main problems throughout the event, not against a team that arrived without evidence of comparable form.

A lower-bracket run led back to the same opponent

Team Vision had already beaten Spirit twice during the event. Vision won their group-stage meeting 2-0 and then took the upper-bracket series 2-1. That second defeat sent Spirit into the lower bracket. Spirit then eliminated Team Liquid, BoomBoys and Team Yandex without losing a game. The three victories created another meeting with Vision, which had reached the final without losing a series in Shanghai. Spirit won the match that mattered most after losing the earlier two.

The lower-bracket sequence also changed the workload before the final.

Spirit played three elimination series after losing to Vision in the upper bracket. The team won all six games against Liquid, BoomBoys and Yandex, but the Grand Final immediately created a different problem. A best-of-five allowed Vision more time to respond, and Spirit could not rely on one successful plan for the entire match.

The active roster is listed on the Aegis

Valve named Yatoro, Larl, Collapse, not_me and rue as Team Spirit’s five players. Miposhka worked with the team as coach and was not part of the active five in the final. Yatoro and Collapse became three-time TI winners. Larl earned his second title, while not_me and rue won the event for the first time. The organization had previously lifted the Aegis in 2021 and 2023.

The long deciding game placed special value on information. A team preparing a high-ground attempt had to know which enemy heroes could buy back and which major abilities were available. One lost fight could expose the base before the defeated players returned. Spirit waited until its advantage produced a safe route forward. That patience mattered more than forcing a quick finish after the series had already lasted four games.

Shanghai completed a record third championship

The 2026 victory made Team Spirit the first organization with three International titles. Team Vision finished runner-up after setting the pace through most of the tournament. Spirit’s name and the five active players will be added to the Aegis. The result closed The International on 23 August, and Valve published its official tournament review three days later.

The championship also separates team history from individual records. The organization now owns titles from three different editions of The International. Yatoro and Collapse took part in all three victories, while Larl added the Shanghai success to his 2023 title. The 2026 event was the first Aegis for not_me and rue. Miposhka contributed as coach, so his role should not be confused with a place in the active five.
