Dota 2 practice commands work only in a private lobby or supported demo session. They are training tools, not public-match cheats. Enabling them does not affect matchmaking games or another server.
A valid command should produce an immediate visible result. Check gold, level, cooldown or inventory before entering another command.
Use the current method
Create a custom lobby and enable cheats in the lobby settings before starting. Choose the standard map when testing ordinary Dota rules.
Use chat commands such as -gold, -lvlup, -item, -refresh, -startgame, -spawncreeps, -wtf and -unwtf for controlled exercises.
Change one condition at a time. Keep the same hero, level and target when comparing spells or items.
Check that the change worked
Use -unwtf after a repeated-cast test so cooldowns and mana return to normal rules.
Restart the lobby when a major update loaded while the old session was open. A fresh session reduces stale-resource problems.

Avoid common problems
Commands are entered with a leading hyphen in team chat unless a documented console command is required.
An invalid internal item or hero name will fail. Use current names and avoid copying an old command list without checking it.
Never install external cheat software. Private lobby commands are built into the game and do not require another program.
Final check before a normal match
Repeat the method once in a fresh private lobby. Confirm the visible result, then return every temporary setting to its normal value. This short check prevents a practice command or experimental control from affecting the next ordinary game.
Game menus and internal commands can change after an update. When the current client does not show an option described here, use the visible replacement instead of forcing an old file or command. The saved post remains a draft so an editor can confirm the current interface before publication.
