Dota 2 can run faster or slower during a private test. This is useful when you need to reach a timing, wait for a respawn or repeat a controlled exercise. The change belongs in an offline or private lobby and does not work in public matchmaking.
The command changes the whole local simulation rather than one hero. Movement, projectiles, timers and animations should all change together.
Use the current method
Create a private lobby and enable cheats before the match starts. Open the developer console, then enter sv_cheats 1 if the local session still requires it.
Enter host_timescale followed by a value. A value above 1 makes the simulation faster. A value between 0 and 1 makes it slower.
Use host_timescale 1 when the test is complete. This restores normal speed before you compare damage, movement or cooldowns.
Check that the change worked
Use a modest value such as 2 for ordinary tests. Very high values can make the client skip useful visual details and can reduce the value of the exercise.
Write down the original game time before the change. After returning to normal speed, confirm that the clock and animations advance at their usual rate.

Avoid common problems
Do not use the command in matchmaking. Public servers control the game speed and ignore local cheat settings.
Do not leave a very low value active and assume the client is frozen. Restore the value to 1 before restarting the lobby.
A custom game may override standard console behavior. Test the command on the normal Dota map when a workshop mode does not respond.
Final check before a normal match
Repeat the method once in a fresh private lobby. Confirm the visible result, then return every temporary setting to its normal value. This short check prevents a practice command or experimental control from affecting the next ordinary game.
